How to select the correct rosin filter bag

How to select the correct rosin filter bag

There are three important parameters that need to be considered while selecting a rosin press bags;
  • Material
  • Micron or mesh rating
  • Dimension

Material

Currently the market provides nylon, silk and metal rosin bag. The preferred material is nylon as it offers flexibility up to 40%, heat resistant and durable. Silk rosin bags doesn’t stretch as nylon rosin bags thus prone to blowouts. Stainless steel rosin bags could damage the rosin press plates as it can scratch the surface of the rosin plates during the pressing procedure and finally polyester rosin bags tend to shrink at higher temperature.

Micron rating

Rosin filter bags are made of mesh material which are rated in microns. As the micron rating reduces, the tighter the mesh get. Therefore a 160 micron rated rosin bag will have larger holes than the 25 micron rosin bag.

Dimension

The plates on the rosin press machine are generally manufactured in two size; 4x7 inch and 3x5 inch. Anything higher than that are usually produced for commercial extractors that aim to distribute large amount of rosin.

However for when the extraction is done in home or small facility, the 2x4 inch and 3x6 rosin press bags are common. Rosin bags like the 2x9 inch, 3x6inch and 5x5inch are made for larger rosin plates.

Generally, the below pairing are done between rosin bags and plates:

  • 2x4inch rosin press bags WITH 3x5inch rosin plates
  • 3x6inch rosin press bags WITH 4x7inch rosin plates
